Freeze Drying Innovation

Agro Food Intellect highlights nationally recognized academic innovation in freeze-drying technology led by researchers from the University of Karachi and NED University. The teams developed Pakistan’s first academic-scale prototype freeze-drying machine, introducing a globally established, billion-dollar food preservation technology into the local agri-food landscape. Freeze-drying enables long-term food preservation—up to 25 years—without chemical preservatives, while retaining nutritional value, taste, and structure. The locally manufactured system demonstrated successful preservation of fruits, eggs, herbs, etc., offering a fully organic and sustainable shelf-life extension solution.

This innovation represents a major step toward indigenous food processing capacity, reduced post-harvest losses, and high-value export potential, reinforcing AFI’s commitment to promoting science-driven, locally developed solutions for resilient agri-food systems.
